Jaren Baluyot won his second consecutive outdoor track and field state championship to score 10 of Broadneck’s 33 points in this weekend’s 4A State Championship meet at Morgan State University. Vaulting 13-6 to improve his personal best and school record height, Jaren has now won 3 consecutive state titles including the 2017 Indoor Track state title.
Maddy Hurley ran a person best time of 12:51.47 to take 10th place in the 3200 meter run, Julia Drooff finished 12th in the 300 meter hurdles and Tori Ochoa competed in the pole vault.
Maddy was not the only Bruin to turn in a season best performance at the meet. Ethan Binnix ran his fastest 100m (11.32) and 200m (22.76) in Friday’s qualifying. He ran his fastest 400m ever (49.48) to capture 7th place.
Paul Squires got in on the PR action by running a 9:28.51 to take 3rd place in the 3200 meter run and then came back Saturday morning and ran 4:24.26 to finish in 6th place in the 1600 meter run.
Ben Switzman has his best vault of the season (11-6) to take 6th place, just behind Adam Maggard (12-6). Other Bruins to score points in the meet were Avery Cerullo (8th in the 300m hurdles), Elian Ahmar (7th in the shot put) and the 4x400m relay team of Brady Morrissey, Tony Tuckfield, Paul Squires and Ethan Binnix who finished 7th in the event.
The 4x800m relay team of Brennan Shute, Brady Morrissey, Christian Wilde and Jonah Svendsen finished 12th in the event during Friday’s wind-swept session.
